Whiskey, like all unflavored distilled spirits, has zero carbs and is therefore keto-friendly. However, drinking alcohol on a keto diet will slow down your weight loss.

Now let’s talk a second about the potential dangers that whiskey presents to your ketogenic diet, as well as a few great keto whiskey cocktail recipes.

3 Ways Whiskey Affects Keto

There are three primary dangers to consider regarding bourbon and scotch whiskey:

#1 – Slower Weight Loss

Even Zero-Carb alcohol like whiskey is always metabolized first before anything else you eat or drink and definitely before your own extra fat stores.

While drinking whiskey won’t kick you out of ketosis, it will slow down your weight loss.

#2 – Hidden Carbs In Flavored Whiskey

Flavored Whiskey often, but not always, has added carbs and will not be keto-friendly. Avoid any flavored whiskey to stay keto-safe.

#3 -Hidden Carbs In Mixers

Nearly all mixers include sugar and therefore carbs.

Avoid mixers except for water and club soda to assure that your whiskey remains ok for your ketogenic diet.

Diet sodas are technically Keto since they are zero carb, but the artificial sweeteners can cause problems for some people and even affect your insulin response.

Proceed with caution with diet sodas.
