What is Monk Fruit Extract and where do you get it?
Monk Fruit Extract is a near zero carb sweetener popular in the Keto Diet and one of our go-to keto sweeteners. According to the FDA Monk Fruit Extract is up 250x sweeter than table sugar. It comes from a small green melon or gourd called a Luo Han Guo that grows on vines in Southeast Asia. Monk fruit gets it’s unusual name from the facts that Buddhist monks have been using it since the 13th century.
Many people say that you can substitution monk fruit extract for sugar on a 1 to 1 ratio. For our personal taste, that is way too sweet (though we have been low carb for a long time). Proceed carefully.
